The KMA Youth Club has been running for over 6 months after a successful launch party that took place on Friday 26th February 2016, where 45 young people attended. Since then there have been weekly sessions up until Ramadan with the 35 young people attending on average. The vast majority of youngsters are between the ages of 12 – 14 years old.
First Youth Excursion
On Saturday 21st May 2016, the team took the youth on their first outdoor excursion to Box Hill in the Surrey Hills. With 22 attendees it consisted of a long trek, some running activities and a beneficial reminder from focusing on the topic of “making fun out of each other”.
On Friday 3rd June 2016, the team had their first youth sleepover at the mosque. The night consisted of a table tennis competition, games, and home cooked food. Before sleeping, 2 units of prayer were offered followed by a powerful reminder.
There are plans to have at least one outing per academic term. This term the Youth Team will be joining up with another youth group and staying at a residential camp at the beginning of the half-term.
The KMA Trustees write:
The KMA trustees along with the members of the mosque highly value and appreciate the efforts and contribution of the Youth Team. We commend their professionalism and the commitment they have shown. The range of skills that make up the team have shown to be of utmost benefit and we are lucky to have youth leaders who are able to mentor young Muslims who are confident in their faith and valuable citizens to British society, demonstrating the best that Muslims have to offer.
The Youth Team wrote,
We are very grateful to Allah and thereafter to the KMA Trustees for the opportunity and support to facilitate this very important job – to help our youth in Kingston and surrounding areas to grow up to be God conscious, well mannered, helpful Muslims who serve their community.
